Our goal on day one is to make that transition as comfortable and straightforward as possible. You don’t have to have everything figured out when you arrive. Our team will meet you where you are, answer your questions, evaluate your needs, and help you take the first steps toward recovery.
Tina Talks Day One of Detox
Coming to medical detox is a big decision, and getting through the door is an accomplishment in itself.
Day one isn’t about fixing everything at once. It’s about creating a safe starting point.
You’ll receive a thorough medical evaluation. Our team will address your immediate medical and comfort needs. Labs will be completed. And when everything has been evaluated, you’ll transition to your private inpatient room to begin settling into the next phase of your care.
It Starts With a Conversation
Your first step is typically a conversation with our detox coordinator.
This is an opportunity to talk openly about what brings you to treatment, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you need from us. We’ll ask questions about your substance use, your history, how you’re feeling, and any concerns you may have about detox.
There is no such thing as a question you shouldn’t ask. Our team is here to help you understand the process and feel more comfortable taking this first step.
You might want to know:
- What will happen during detox?
- How long will I be here?
- Will I be comfortable?
- What happens if I start experiencing withdrawal?
- What should I expect tonight?
- What happens after detox?
Next, You’ll Complete a Medical Evaluation
Once you’re ready to move forward, you’ll be checked into the emergency department side of our hospital for a comprehensive medical evaluation. This part of the process allows our medical team to get a clear picture of your current health and identify anything that may need attention during detox.
Your evaluation may include a physical assessment, vital signs, medical history, and laboratory testing. These evaluations help our team understand what your body needs and develop an appropriate plan for your care.
Medical detox isn’t a one-size-fits-all process. Your care is based on your individual situation, health, substance use history, and withdrawal needs.
Fluids and Comfort Medications
As your evaluation gets underway, our team can also focus on helping you feel more comfortable.
Depending on your individual needs and medical assessment, you may receive fluids and medications to help manage symptoms and provide comfort during the early stages of detox.
Your First Day Isn’t About Being Rushed
One of the most important things to know about day one is that you don’t need to rush.
The first day is about easing in. You’ve already taken a major step by walking through the door. From there, our team takes the time to evaluate you, answer your questions, monitor your condition, and help you become comfortable with your surroundings.
There may be paperwork, assessments, conversations, and lab work, but the overall goal is simple: get to know you and make sure you’re safely supported as you begin detox.
Once Your Evaluation Is Complete, You’ll Settle Into Your Private Room
After your medical evaluation and laboratory testing are complete, you’ll be transferred to your private inpatient room. This is where you can begin to settle in and get familiar with your new surroundings.
You may be tired. You may have a lot on your mind. You may feel relieved, nervous, hopeful, or a combination of all of these things. That’s okay.
You don’t have to know exactly how you’re going to feel or what the next several days will look like. For now, your job is simply to settle in, rest, and let our team take care of you.
